Job Description

The Nissenbaum Law Group is a boutique, full service commercial law firm of approximately 8 attorneys that focuses on both complex (a) commercial litigation in the state and federal courts and (b) commercial transactional matters. The firm’s business clients range from individuals and small start-ups to multi-national companies. The position is based out of the firm’s headquarters in Union, NJ though the firm also maintains offices in Manhattan, Philadelphia and Dallas.

HYBRID WORK ARRANGEMENTS : The firm offers work-from-home, hybrid and in-person arrangements to suit the needs of our attorneys. We are very flexible on that score.

NOTE: While admittedly much of current legal practice has become virtual, our attorneys must also be able to attend, for example, in-person court appearances, depositions, meetings and otherwise perform the work of an in-person commercial legal practice as defined by the needs of our clients and law firm

TRAINING AND MENTORING : Entering associates will typically be provided with a 2-4 week intensive training program overseen by our managing attorney.

The firm is committed to mentoring new associates in a collaborative and multi-layered manner respecting relatively all significant aspects of commercial practice. The purpose is to allow our new attorneys wide latitude to take on early responsibilities that will be challenging for them. This includes items such as handling:

  • legal research techniques,
  • persuasive brief writing,
  • motion hearings,
  • depositions,
  • status conferences,
  • strategy meetings with clients, and
  • ultimately, trials and appellate oral arguments.

Having said that, our firm is full service with a practice that involves not just commercial litigation matters, but also (a) commercial transactional matters and (b) attorney ethics defense and representation of attorneys in regard to trust account audits. Candidates may have the opportunity, and in fact, be asked by the firm, to perform work in these other practice areas as well.

In short, this is a job for people who want to accelerate their development as attorneys.

WHAT QUALIFIES YOU :

  • JD Degree from an ABA accredited law school

(PLEASE NOTE: A Master of Laws degree that was earned instead of a J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school is not a sufficient substitute because it is not generally accepted for admission to the NJ bar .),

  • Judicial clerkship (preferred, but not required),
  • admission to the New Jersey bar preferred (and the willingness to immediately apply for admission to that bar and others),
  • 2 years’ minimum of relevant experience,
  • outstanding academic credentials,
  • litigation experience preferred but not required; and
  • strong oral and written communication skills.

*Please send both your (a) resume and (b) law school transcript to our managing attorney Gary D. Nissenbaum, Esq. gdn@gdnlaw.com with a copy to our practice assistant Daniella Alzate at da@gdnlaw.com.

PLEASE NOTE: We prefer not to receive the candidate's resume and cover letter via LinkedIn, but rather via email directly to the two of them.

PAY : appr. $110,000 - $165,000/ year

BENEFITS : We currently offer an array of employee benefits:

  • multiple medical insurance plans with an employer contribution,
  • group long term-disability insurance with an employer contribution,
  • group life insurance with an employer contribution,
  • Aflac short term disability, accident and dental insurance, which is employee paid, and
  • a Fidelity 401K .
