Job Description

School Social Worker

Part-Time/Exempt *(Starting September/2025)

Location: Columbus, NJ

Compensation Range: $40.00/per hour

Reports to: Director of Mental Health Services

Position Summary: 

The School Social Worker delivers mental health services to students with disabilities, collaborating with youth, families, and child study teams to achieve treatment goals. Responsibilities include child study case management, IEP consultation, individual and group therapy related to mental health, functional and coping skills. The School Social Worker must ensure timely documentation and possess knowledge of community-based resources and adhere to relevant policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Provide mental health services to youth and adolescents in the school setting.
  • Develop and implement individualized, strengths-based service plans.
  • Offer various modalities of individual therapy.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions.
  • Participation in child study case management
  • Provide IEP consultation, evaluations, and make referrals to other services.
  • Complete and submit records and reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure care aligns with policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Participate in supervision and professional development.
  • Maintain regular attendance, submit accurate timesheets, and adhere to company policies.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Work in a school-based setting, including classrooms, offices, and occasional home visits.
  • Essential Physical Demands:
  • Requires walking, sitting, standing, bending, running, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Involves physical interaction with students exhibiting difficulty controlling behavior.

Team: 

This role will be part of the school-based mental health services team, reporting to the Director of Mental Health Services.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field.
  • Hold a New Jersey Educational Services Certificate with a School Social Worker Endorsement in accordance with the requirements of N.J.S.A
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with youth and adolescents (ages 12-21).
  • Must be able to physically assist with evacuating children during emergencies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred: 1 year of experience with developmental disabilities and in a school setting, case management and familiarity with IEPs.
